With the expense of electricity continually rising, businesses must make an effort to reduce electric consumption so that you can keep operating costs manageable. There are several ways in which businesses can make simple changes and lower their electrical consumption.

Office Electricity

• Ensure that lighting is only on in rooms if they are needed. Encourage personnel to work with natural lighting by opening blinds as well as other window coverings. If a lot of heat is generated using natural sunlight, use low energy bulbs where convenient.

• Unplug any equipment for your office which is not in continual use. Many tools sit unused, yet fully charged. By plugging in only as needed you reduce electricity use.

• Replace air filters on air conditioner every month. Dirty filters increase the risk for units to operate harder, using more power.

• Replace office kitchen equipment with efficiency rated equipment.

• Switch off all equipment before leaving in the evening

• Make sure thermostat is not in direct sunlight or near a heat vent. Replace the thermostat with one that will easily be programmed.

• Check hot water heater temperature.

Production Electricity

• Production areas less complicated such as the office area when it comes to equipment that’s not being used remaining connected to a power outlet. Unplug all unused equipment.
