Awards are shown out for many reasons and to different styles of people. From kids winning a ribbon in a school sports day with a celebrity taking home an Oscar, awards and trophies have been given out for many hundreds of years. Today they continue to hold a significant part within our lives. What they have to are shown out for, trophies all have one purpose, to award excellence within a chosen field.

Academy Award

Also called the Oscars, the Academy Awards are held throughout the first section of the year to discover films that premiered the previous year. The American Academy of movement Picture Arts and Sciences is responsible for awarding the Oscars and on this grand evening several Oscars are shown out for several categories, such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. The awards were first kept in 1929 and today it is considered probably the most prominent award ceremonies on the planet, being telecast live in over 200 countries. Within the recent 2011 Oscars the film “The King’s Speech” won the Oscar for the most powerful Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, with this accolade going to British actor, Colin Firth.
